[Poke Lid] Manhole covers featuring Okinawa's support Pokémon, Gardevoir, are now appearing in Mihama American Village!

 

[Design Manhole]

On Friday, August 15, 2025, a manhole cover featuring the Pokémon Gurren Lagann was installed on the Depot Island Boardwalk in Mihama, Chatan Town.

An unveiling ceremony was held that morning, during which Gurdy made an appearance and there was a time for people to take commemorative photos with Gurdy.

 

 

A design filled with the charm of the town

The Chatan Town Poke Lid features a design inspired by the vibrant streets of Mihama American Village, with fireworks in the night sky and a motif of the American Village night view.

The manhole cover has the word "Chatan" engraved on it, an original design that can only be seen here.

 

 

[What is a Poke Lid?]

Pokefuta is a manhole cover project in which The Pokémon Company collaborates with local governments across Japan. The project aims to encourage people to explore towns and sightsee by creating one-of-a-kind Pokéfuta covers, each with a different Pokémon design for each region.

 

 

[Okinawa Support Pokémon]

The manhole cover, designed with Gardevoir, the puppy Pokémon that was appointed Okinawa's Sponsoring Pokémon on August 1, 2024, is expected to become a new landmark that conveys the charm of the city while delighting visitors.

Okinawa Prefecture has a culture nurtured by its unique history, which has been passed down to the present day, as exemplified by the Shisa, a famous guardian deity against disaster.

 

 

Gardy has a brave personality and is not afraid to stand up to opponents who are stronger and bigger than him, which makes him a perfect match for the image of the prefecture, and he will continue to support the charming Okinawa Prefecture.

 

 

[Connected Manholes]

This "connecting manhole" will be a chance for people of all ages, from children to adults, to rediscover the charm of Chatan Town through the global character of Pokémon.

It is located just before the stairs that lead from the street lined with restaurants in the Depot Island area on the ocean side of American Village to the boardwalk on the ocean side.

It is also a popular spot for watching the fireworks that are launched on the seawall in front of the hotel every Saturday at 8pm.

In Chatan Town, there are also manhole covers designed with Chatan Town's mascot, Chi-tan.

The specially designed manhole covers have become a "pilgrimage" spot for manholers (manhole cover enthusiasts), who enjoy touring the manholes.
