The 1st Chatan Fisherina Yacht Race will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025 in Chatan Town, which is surrounded by the beautiful west coast sea.

The race course will be located between Hamakawa Fishing Port and the northernmost tip of Miyagi Coast.

The race takes place about 500m offshore, so the public is of course free to watch.

[Purpose of the event]

The purpose of holding a yacht race in the Chatan Town Fisherina District, which combines the fishing and marine industries taking advantage of the characteristics of the town's west coast, and in the neighboring Mihama American Village District, which has developed into one of the prefecture's leading tourist destinations, is to further enhance the area's appeal as a world-class urban oceanfront resort and raise international recognition, as well as to generate new exchange population and promote the seaside town of CHATAN both domestically and internationally.

A First Leg
08:55 Start signal (Multihull class)
09:25 Start signal (Monohull class)

 

B. Second leg
10 minutes after the last boat to finish in the first leg, the start signal (multihull classes)
Monohull class: 20 minutes after the start of the multihull class: Start signal
*Time limit for each race: 60 minutes after the start.
*The race will finish in the morning, and the trial ride will start in the afternoon.

(3) Course
A triangular course (approximately 3 to 4.5 miles x 2 laps) from offshore Hamakawa Fishing Port in Chatan Town, turning around offshore at the northernmost tip of Miyagi Coast in Chatan Town, passing through a buoy offshore on the west side of Chatan Town, and ending at offshore Hamakawa Fishing Port in Chatan Town.
*The course will be decided at the captains' meeting, taking into consideration the weather on the day.

 

(4) Applicable rules
Based on the Racing Rules of Sailing 2025-2028 (RRS), ORS, these Race Guidelines and Sailing Instructions.

 

(5) Eligibility
A. An ocean cruiser with an overall length of 19 feet or more that is sufficiently seaworthy and safe.
Boats that have an ORS (calculated using the Okinawa Rating System)
The ORS value for multihull boats will be determined by the race committee.
Boats that have passed the inspection by the Japan Ship Inspection Organization and are equipped with effective safety equipment.
Boats that can contact shore by mobile phone, etc.
*Boats that do not fall under category (a) may be allowed to participate by determining the ORS value by the race committee.
